Functional Neurological Disorder (FND)

Functional Neurological Disorder (FND)

Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) is a neurological condition that affects how the brain controls movement, sensation, and function within the body.

For many people, receiving an FND diagnosis can feel confusing and at times frustrating. Support and specialist rehabilitation can sometimes be difficult to access, and many individuals tell us they have struggled to find professionals who truly understand the condition.

At Burscough Neuro Physiotherapy, supporting people with FND is one of our specialist areas. Our experienced team of neurological physiotherapists works closely with each person to understand how symptoms are affecting their daily life.

Through tailored rehabilitation, we focus on retraining movement, improving physical control, and rebuilding confidence in the body.

How Neuro Physiotherapy Can Help with FND

We know that no two people experience FND in the same way. That’s why our approach is tailored to your symptoms, goals and lifestyle. Many patients and families have concerns about the changes they are experiencing, and specialist rehabilitation can play an important role in helping manage symptoms day to day.

Things we can help with:

  • Weakness in an arm or leg
  • Walking difficulties, tripping, dizziness or feeling unsteady

  • Tremors, jerking or spasms

  • Numbness, tingling or altered sensation

  • Pain affecting movement

  • Reduced confidence with mobility or daily life

Get Started with Burscough Neuro Physiotherapy

The first step in starting physiotherapy with us is to arrange an initial assessment. This gives us the opportunity to understand your current situation, your goals, and what support will feel most helpful for you.

Your initial assessment lasts approximately 90 minutes and looks at all aspects of how FND impacts your life. We will:

  • Assess your movement, balance and function
  • Discuss what matters most to you
  • Be honest about what improvement may realistically be achievable
  • Create a clear plan to keep moving forward

The assessment also includes an element of treatment, so you leave with practical input from the very first session.

If you’re unsure whether neuro physiotherapy would be helpful, please feel free to call us for a friendly chat. We’re happy to talk through your situation and offer guidance on what moving forward may look like for you.

  • No referral is needed. You are welcome to contact our team directly to arrange an initial assessment.
