Stroke Rehabilitation

Stroke

A stroke can turn everyday life upside down. Simple things such as standing up on your own, getting dressed or going to the bathroom can suddenly feel difficult or even impossible.

With the right rehabilitation and support, neuro physiotherapy works with the brain’s remarkable ability to adapt and reorganise — meaning recovery and improvement are possible after stroke.

For over 30 years, we’ve supported individuals and families with stroke rehabilitation, helping you make meaningful progress, rebuild confidence and regain independence.

How Neuro Physiotherapy Can Help After a Stroke

No two strokes are the same, and the effects depend on which area of the brain has been affected. Many patients and families have concerns about the changes they’re experiencing, and these are all areas where the right stroke rehabilitation support can make a meaningful difference.

Things we can help with:

  • Weakness or heaviness on one side of your body
  • Difficulty using the arm or hand
  • Changes in your balance or feeling unsteady on your feet
  • Slowness, stiffness, or muscle tightness
  • Numbness, tingling, or touch sensitivity
  • Fatigue and low energy
  • Loss of confidence in everyday tasks
  • Practical guidance for family and carers

Get Started with Burscough Neuro Physiotherapy

The first step in starting physiotherapy with us is to arrange an initial assessment. This gives us the opportunity to understand your current situation, your goals, and what support will feel most helpful for you.

Your initial assessment lasts approximately 90 minutes and looks at all aspects of how the stroke has affected you. We will:

  • Assess your movement, balance and function
  • Discuss what matters most to you
  • Be honest about what improvement may realistically be achievable
  • Create a clear plan to keep moving forward

The assessment also includes an element of treatment, so you leave with practical input from the very first session.

If you’re unsure whether neuro physiotherapy would be helpful, please feel free to call us for a friendly chat. We’re happy to talk through your situation and offer guidance on what moving forward may look like for you.

  • No referral is needed. You are welcome to contact our team directly to arrange an initial assessment.
Frequently Asked Questions

Recovery looks different for everyone. Some people notice significant improvements in the early weeks and months, while others continue making steady progress over a longer period.

The area of the brain affected, the severity of the stroke, and the consistency of rehabilitation can all influence how recovery develops. With the right support, meaningful progress is often possible at many stages.

Some people make a near full recovery, while others experience longer-term changes. Every stroke is different, and recovery can look different for each person.

Recovery doesn’t always mean returning to exactly how things were before. For many people, it means rebuilding independence, improving everyday function, and finding new ways to do the things that matter most.

Yes. We often see people make meaningful progress even months or years after their stroke.

The brain has a remarkable ability to adapt and reorganise — a process known as neuroplasticity. With structured, targeted rehabilitation, continued improvement is often possible, even at later stages of recovery.

NHS services provide vital early stroke rehabilitation, often within set timeframes. Many people find they would benefit from continued or more intensive support once that period comes to an end.

We regularly work alongside NHS teams or continue rehabilitation after NHS therapy has finished, helping you build on the progress you’ve already made and keep moving forward at a pace that feels right for you.

Yes. We provide home, care home and community visits across Sefton, Liverpool, Merseyside and West Lancashire.

Home visits allow treatment to focus on the practical challenges that matter most in everyday life — such as transfers, wheelchair mobility, moving safely around your home, managing stairs, and building confidence with daily activities.
