Frequently Asked Questions

Starting private physiotherapy can feel like a big step. Below, we’ve answered some of the questions we are most commonly asked. If you’re still unsure, we’re always happy to help.

All physiotherapists help people improve movement, strength and physical function. A neuro physiotherapist has additional experience and specialist knowledge in helping people with neurological conditions and more complex rehabilitation needs.

At Burscough Neuro Physiotherapy, we specialise in supporting people with conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury and brain injury, as well as people with more general mobility difficulties, elderly rehabilitation needs, and reduced confidence after illness or hospital admission.

We support adults with a wide range of rehabilitation needs.

This includes people living with neurological conditions, as well as those experiencing more general mobility difficulties, weakness, falls, reduced confidence walking, or a loss of independence following illness, injury or time in hospital.

Many of our patients come to us for help with walking, strength, transfers, confidence and day-to-day function.

No, you do not usually need a referral to book physiotherapy with us.

Many of our patients contact us directly, or a family member gets in touch on their behalf. We also receive referrals from GPs, consultants, case managers and other healthcare professionals.

If you are unsure whether we are the right service for you, please get in touch, and we will be happy to talk it through.

Yes. We provide physiotherapy in patients’ own homes, in the community, in care homes, and at our rehabilitation centres.

This can be particularly helpful for people who find travel difficult, feel more comfortable in familiar surroundings, or would benefit from treatment in the environment where they manage day-to-day life.

If you are unsure which setting would be best, we can help advise.

Your first appointment is an opportunity for us to understand you as a person, not just your condition.

We will talk through your current difficulties, medical background, mobility, goals and what matters most to you. We will then carry out a detailed assessment to understand how you are moving, what may be limiting you, and how physiotherapy may be able to help.

Where appropriate, we may also begin some treatment during the first session. By the end of the appointment, you should have a clearer understanding of our recommendations and the next steps.

Our initial assessments are usually 90 minutes.

This gives us time to build a clear picture of your difficulties, carry out a detailed assessment, and begin shaping a personalised rehabilitation plan. It also gives you the opportunity to ask questions and talk through any concerns.

Yes.

Some people come to us soon after leaving hospital or after a recent change in mobility. Others contact us months or even years later because progress has slowed, confidence has reduced, or they feel they would benefit from further support.

Even when a problem has been present for some time, physiotherapy may still help improve mobility, confidence, independence and quality of life.

Yes.

Many of our patients receive support from NHS services alongside private physiotherapy. Private treatment can complement existing care by providing additional rehabilitation, continuity and specialist input where needed.

Where appropriate, we are also happy to work alongside other professionals involved in your care.

Our prices vary depending on the type and location of the appointment.

We aim to keep our fees as affordable as possible for specialist neuro physiotherapy and rehabilitation. You can view our current fees on our pricing page, or contact us directly and we will be happy to talk you through the options and help you decide which option is most appropriate.

We understand that choosing the right physiotherapy service can feel like an important decision.

If you are unsure whether we are the right fit, please get in touch. We are always happy to speak, answer your questions and talk through your situation.

We also offer a free initial telephone consultation with one of our specialist neuro physiotherapists, which can be a helpful first step if you would like some guidance before booking.

Have a question? We’re happy to help

If you’d like to find out more, book an assessment, or simply talk things through first, we’d be very happy to hear from you.

We also offer a free initial telephone consultation with one of our specialist neuro physiotherapists, which can be a helpful first step if you are unsure where to start.
